Restoration and or repairs consist of custom, or restorative or partial repairs or replacements of broken, damaged or missing or even outdated stained glass pieces. We run the gambit of re-leading, re-cementing, replacement of weakened or poorly designed border materials. Replacing soft out dated lead borders with new steel reinforced zinc border material can make a huge difference in the longevity of any stained glass window. There are primarily three elements to any stained glass window. The glass, in regards to human time, is ageless for the most part.(There are usually steel bars attached to the inside of large stained glass panels or windows which we consider an addition to the window itself) Note: all cement has a shelf life. It is vital in providing stability and rigidity to all windows it is the first to go in the aging process. Note: all lead and zinc has a shelf life (the materials require for the ?scaffolding? of most stained glass windows and the time limit is 70 to 80 years. We also devise and recommend switching (if possible) the rabbit and reversing the stops so that the sections of stained glass are then accessed from the inside of a structure. Huge future savings and convince is the result. We can arrange window saving ?covers? for those windows still exposed to the elements. If plastics were used for this purpose they will need replacing ?have they started to turn milky or obscure yet? They will with time. We know what to do and your options in degrees of practicality and expense. Word to the wise: We do not flimflam or swindle and there are many in this business regretfully out there that do.
